Planetary gears is often mentioned when we talk about the mechanical industry, automotive engineering or other related fields. As a common transmission device, it is widely used in industrial production. So, what is a planetary gear?

1. Planetary gear definition

Planetary gear is a transmission device consisting of a sun gear and satellite gears (planetary gears) that rotate around it. Its working principle is similar to the trajectory of the planets in the solar system, hence the name planetary gear. The central gear is fixed, while the satellite gear rotates and revolves around the central gear.

2. Planetary gear structure

Planetary gear set consists of sun gear, planet gears, and external ring gear. Located in the center of the planetary gear mechanism is the sun gear. The sun gear and the planet gear are in constant mesh, and the two external gears mesh and rotate in opposite directions. The external ring gear matches the planetary gear and plays a role in limiting the rotation of the planetary gear.

3. How planetary gears work

1). When the sun wheel inputs power, it will drive the planet wheels to rotate around the sun wheel, and the planet wheels will also rotate on their own.

2). The rotation of the planetary wheel will transmit power to the rotor, causing it to start rotating.

3). The power output by the rotor is transmitted to other components through the external ring gear to achieve energy transmission.
